Terry Douglas

BSc Physiotherapy – University of Cape Town.

After graduation Terry worked as a physiotherapist in the United Kingdom for seven years. There she worked with some of the leading experts in the field of neurology and rehabilitation, at leading NHS hospitals and rehabilitation units.

Terry has a particular interest in movement analysis, and this led her into the study of neurological rehabilitation and movement disorders. She has continued to develop her interest in these various interrelated areas. Her most recent qualification, in January 2009, was in vestibular and balance related disorders.

In 1996 she returned to South Africa and opened her practice. This practice has continued to develop and expand. There are now four physiotherapists within the practice, who have a special interest in this field.

Terry acts on a consultancy basis to augment and improve the level of treatment received by the clients in her practice.

Athene Irving

BSc. Physiotherapy – Stellenbosch
Athene graduated with a BSc. Physiotherapy from Stellenbosch University in 1999. She spent the next 4 years in the UK working in the acute and rehabilitative fields. On returning to South Africa, she began working at the Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre as a Senior Physiotherapist with clients with neurological impairments, spinal cord injury and amputations.

She has a keen interest in neuro rehabilitation and has completed many post graduate courses in this field including Bobath training at Basic and Advanced levels, and she applies this approach in many client treatments. She is a Yoga student and enjoys incorporating Yoga movement and poses in conjunction with physiotherapeutic techniques. Athene also has an interest in special seating needs of wheelchair users and is a presenter of the Western Cape Department of Health (WCRC)- Motivation- ETPT Wheelchair Training and Development Project, Wheelchair Service Delivery, Basic (Professional) Course.

Athene is also a mom to two year old Anna.

Talya Jehoshofat

BSc Physiotherapy-University of Cape Town.

Talya Jehoshafat graduated with distinction from The University of Cape Town. After her graduation, she completed her community service year in the rural Overberg district of the Western Cape area where she gained invaluable experience and refined her clinical skills. Over this time she also completed her advanced wheelchair course.

Talya has a particular interest in the field of neurological rehabilitation. Another of her areas of interests includes hydrotherapy. She spent a year at a hydrotherapy specialized Physiotherapy practice where she developed her expertise in the beneficial therapeutic qualities of exercise in water. To further her knowledge in neurological rehabilitation, she completed the eight week course specializing in Neurodevelopmental Therapy in 2008.

Before qualifying as a Physiotherapist she studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She also spent four years teaching at a school in Cape Town.

Yolande Cater

BSc.Physiotherapy-University of Pretoria.

Yolande has completed her year of community-based physiotherapy. She worked in a teaching Hospital in Pretoria as a physiotherapist and supervisor and served as a junior lecturer in cardiac rehabilitation at the University of Pretoria. During this time she also worked as a team physiotherapist for a local junior soccer team.

She moved to Cape Town in 2008 to pursue her special interest in Neurological Rehabilitation and joined our practice. She is currently developing the Pilates-style exercise class for our clients.
